BROOKLYN, N.Y. — October 1, 2026 — Brooklyn residents, community leaders and supporters came together Thursday evening for the Pink Ribbon Walk, a public event dedicated to breast cancer awareness and to recognizing those whose lives have been affected by the disease.

The walk took place from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginning on Nostrand Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street. Participants dressed in pink and walked together through the neighborhood, creating a visible show of encouragement for survivors, families and others touched by breast cancer.

The NYPD, including officers and Community Affairs personnel, helped manage traffic and provided an escort along the route. Temporary street closures allowed participants to walk safely in the roadway, while police vehicles and officers maintained a visible presence throughout the procession. Vehicles from Patrol Borough Brooklyn North were also present during the event.

Michelle Tégé, a retired NYPD Detective First Grade and cancer survivor, was among those who joined the walk in support of breast cancer awareness. Tégé has remained active in community organizations, including NOBLE — the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives — and the NYPD Guardians Association. Her participation added a personal connection to the evening’s message of awareness and survivorship.

Brian Saunders, president of the 77th Precinct Community Council, was also present for the walk. His participation, along with Community Affairs personnel and other neighborhood participants, reflected the close relationship between local organizations, law enforcement and the community.

Throughout the event, the atmosphere remained energetic and supportive. Pink clothing, ribbons and balloons were visible among participants as the procession moved through Brooklyn. More than simply a walk, the event provided an opportunity for survivors, supporters, community representatives and residents to come together around a common cause.

With the assistance of the NYPD in securing the route and maintaining safe conditions, participants were able to carry their message directly through the streets of Brooklyn. Along the way, some neighborhood residents waved from their windows in support, adding to the sense of community surrounding the walk. The evening concluded as a visible demonstration of support, resilience and community unity.
